With a sustained EBacc entry approximately double that of national average, we place academic rigour at the heart of all we do and seek to immerse our students in the very best of what has been thought and said. St Mary's College is a Voluntary Catholic Academy in the Diocese of Middlesbrough. It is a co-educational, secondary comprehensive school, for students aged 11 - 18.

The College is part of St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Academy Trust and the Trust Board is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for determining the admissions arrangements and administering independent appeals.

Personal development is the golden thread that runs through all aspects of our school.

Uniform helps our students to feel a part of our community and ensures there is no discrimination between pupils. It sets a standard of expectations for work and behaviour and we are grateful for your support in upholding our high standards of dress code.

St Mary's College has a thriving sixth form with increasing numbers taking advantage of our outstanding facilities. This has enabled us to develop our range of courses for students of all abilities and to build pastoral structures that allow students to achieve their full potential.

We offer a broad range of A-levels, Level 3 BTEC and CTECs, and T level qualifications. Depending on your prior attainment, students can choose to study all A-levels or all BTECs/CTECs, with many choosing to study a combination of both.

Prospective SM6 students are welcome to make an appointment to meet with the team for a tour of the sixth form or attend one of our Open Evenings in October and January to meet with course leaders and explore your personal options.

The SM6 Academies of Sport are proud to promote a sports offer which the CEO of Sport England described as a ‘national role model’ and Ofsted as ‘as good as it gets’. We can boast course directors and coaches from the local professional sporting clubs who are world class leaders in their fields.

Our pioneering Medical , Health & Social Care Academy was established in 2015 between SM6 and the NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group in order to support local students onto NHS and Social Care pathways.

Moving from primary to secondary school is an exciting and significant event in the life of your child.

We are delighted to share the news that St Mary's College has been awarded the Artsmark Platinum award by the Arts Council of England.  

Media students at St Mary’s College had the opportunity to meet with BAFTA award-winning director Sean McAllister and the star of his documentary, A Northern Soul, Steve Arnott. 

Ros Norton was a pupil at St Mary’s from 1964 to 1972 when the school was a grammar school for 400 girls. 

For the parents and carers of Year 9 students. Last year with your consent, your child completed a survey on mental health and well-being in school which was invaluable in allowing us to tailor our support to the needs of our young people. 

Year 13 St Mary's College student Tabitha Ezekiel has been nominated and shortlisted for the individual student award for overall World Class Achievement 2018 by World Class Schools (WCSQM).

St Mary’s College became involved with Poetry by Heart two years ago through their annual competition with our Literacy Ambassadors when the organisation opened the Shakespeare Sonnets collection.

St Mary’s College Sixth Form students are revelling in their best ever A-Level results today.

Since 2011, the Government has provided additional funds to schools called the Pupil Premium.
The Pupil Premium is given to publicly funded schools to raise attainment of disadvantaged pupils and to close the gap between them and their peers. In addition, funds have been made available for Covid-19 recovery some of which may be allocated to PP.

Our school Eco Team are working on ways to reduce rubbish going to landfill. It is estimated that approximately 1.75 million tonnes of clothing waste is produced in the UK every year & out of this vast tonnage around 1.2 million tonnes is sent unnecessarily to landfill.

Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) have partnered with the Catholic charity St John of God Hospitaller Services (SJOG) to create a Homes for Ukraine ‘matching service’ to put Ukrainian families displaced by the brutal war in their country in contact with people in this country willing to host them under the government’s Homes for Ukraine visa scheme.

Personal Development at St Mary’s College Sixth Form is unique, broad, highly ambitious and seeks to help learners develop their individual talents and interests.

The SM6 Team acknowledges the vital role of good partnerships with Parents & Carers in order to provide outstanding education for all students in our Sixth Form, and we welcome your involvement in their learning journey. Young people starting sixth form are empowered to take control of their learning, but they often still need lots of support and encouragement from teachers, support staff and parents/carers to help them adjust to new ways of working and make the most of the new levels of independence afforded to them as Level 3 students.
