SM6 team are declared winners of the regional National Bar Mock Trial Competition in Leeds.

5th December 2023

St Mary's College Sixth Form students are delighted to have been delcared the winners of the Leeds regional heat of the National Bar Mock Trial Competition on Saturday 2nd December.
This would be an amazing achieving at any stage, but given that it was the first time we had entered it is truly incredible. of the National Bar Mock Trial Competition. We came in first place amongst a range of schools and colleges (15+) from all across Yorkshire.

A significant amount of preparation over the past 10 weeks has paid off – our team of students took on a variety of roles including those of Barristers, witnesses, court Clerk and Usher.

We had to prepare the defence and prosecution of 2 cases (speeches, questioning etc.) and in a fiercely competitive environment with hostile cross examination we were victorious as judged by a range a senior barristers (including Kings Counsel) and Judges.

We have therefore secured a place at the prestigious national final to challenge the regional winners from across the country. The Final will take place at the Royal Courts of Justice (Home of the High Court and Court of Appeal) in London. We can’t wait – we are so excited for next stage.

The win is down to everyone’s hard work and dedication – thanks to all the students and of course the staff who supported, putting so much effort and time into it and for giving up a Saturday!
