Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Applied Law (Equivalent to 1 A level)
Aims of the course:
- Provide a grounding in the main principles of English Law
- Develop an understanding of legal methods and reasoning
- Develop the techniques of logical thinking and the skills necessary to analyse and solve legal problems with a practical approach
- Develop a critical awareness of the changing nature of law in society
What are lessons like?
Lessons are varied and activities are chosen to suit the topic. You can expect to experience the following during the course of the full two year programme.
Presentations, Timed responses, Essays, Problem solving, Internet research Class discussions, Guest Speakers, Class Debates, Trips/Visits
Recommended prior learning /entry requirements:
Meet the required entry criteria for the sixth form. This BTEC course generally suits those students who have met the College’s Sixth Form minimum entry grades and have predominantly level ‘4 & 5’ grades at GCSE.

Unit 1: Dispute Solving in Civil Law How it's assessed · External assessment: A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised exam conditions · Written submission: 1 hour and 30 minutes · 60 marks
Unit 2: Aspects of criminal law and the legal system How it's assessed · Internal assessment: · Written coursework submissions
Unit 3: Applying the law (Criminal Law) How it's assessed · External assessment: A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions · Written submission: 2 Hours · 72 marks
Unit 7: Aspects of Tort law How it's assessed · Internal assessment: · Written coursework submissions
