Simply stunning GCSE results
23rd August 2018
SMC are delighted to report an outstanding set of GCSE results this year.
Executive Head, Ged Fitzpatrick declared the outcomes to be ‘simply stunning’. Staff at the school are immensely proud of the truly world class performance of the #Classof2018.
Over 30% of grades achieved across the curriculum were in the highest 7-9 range with well over 100 of the new challenging grade 9s achieved. Nearly 4 out of 5 students achieved standard passes in both English and Maths with well over half achieving ‘the basics’ threshold with strong passes.
Outcomes across the curriculum are consistently high quality and represent the strongest ever set of results for the College. Whilst it is of course impossible to calculate Progress 8 scores at this stage, it is anticipated based on patterns of attainment, that St Mary’s will remain comfortably in the top 100 schools in the country for a fourth consecutive year and strongly expect to move higher up the list.
One exceptional example was sixteen year old SMC student Rik Knowles. As well as gaining grade 9s in every subject he sat, Rik was one of very few students nationally to only drop a single mark across all papers in his Maths GCSE. Rik has now signed up to continue his education with St Mary’s College sixth form along with many of his peers achieving a string of top grades.
