Monday 16 March 2026 St Mary's College, Voluntary Catholic Academy Achieves National Recognition for Outstanding Performance St Mary's College, Voluntary Catholic Academy is proud to announce that it has been recognised by SSAT (The Schools, Students and Teachers Network) in this year’s Educational Outcomes Awards. This national award places the school among the highest-performing secondary schools in the country, based on the latest performance data. St Mary's College, Voluntary Catholic Academy was recognised for being in the top 20% of non-selective schools nationally for student attainment in the 2025 end of KS4 exams.

Monday 9 February 2026 St Mary’s College Visit the Relics of St Gerard Majella On 5th February, a small group of students and staff representing all year groups at St Mary’s College had the privilege of visiting St Charles Borromeo Church in Hull to venerate the relics of St Gerard Majella, which were visiting the parish as part of the 300th anniversary of his birth. During the visit, the college community had the opportunity to venerate the relics of St Gerard Majella, a Redemptorist lay brother known for his humility, compassion and deep trust in God. As the patron saint of mothers, expectant parents, families and those longing for children, St Gerard’s life and witness continue to inspire people across generations. As part of the visit, students and staff were treated to a fascinating tour of the historic features of the church, led by Fr Phillip Cunnah. Tuesday 3 February 2026 St Mary’s College welcomes the Lord Mayor of Hull St Mary’s College recently hosted a visit from the Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Cheryl Payne. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase the spirit of their community and the leadership initiatives that define daily school life. The highlight of the visit was a formal meeting between the Lord Mayor and our SMC Best Ambassadors. These student leaders serve as the heartbeat of school culture and they took the opportunity to explain their vital roles and responsibilities. During their presentation the Ambassadors spoke passionately about how they act as guardians of the school's mission, vision, and values. A clear set of values guide the school community, supported by strong expectations. Monday 2 February 2026 St Mary’s College receives commendation for academic excellence We are delighted to announce that we have received a formal letter of congratulations from the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson. The letter highlights the "excellent outcomes" achieved by the most disadvantaged pupils at SMC at the end of the 2024-25 academic year. She states that the performance of pupils at SMC places us among the very best nationally, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to provide exceptional, world-class education for every child, regardless of background. In her message to Mrs Stead, Ms. Phillipson noted that this success is a direct reflection of the "dedication of staff and the hard work of pupils," stating that the results demonstrate exactly what can be achieved when "ambition and commitment come together."
